River State Park [ click here for park map ] |
| Located along the banks of the scenic Pocomoke River,
this state park is divided into two sections featuring
popular camping and picnicking areas. On the river's
north bank, Milburn Landing is 7 miles northeast of
Pocomoke City via RT. 364 or RT. 12. Shad Landing, on the
Pocomoke's southern bank, is 3.5 miles south of Snow Hill
near RT. 13. The Shad Landing Marina has 23 boat slips with water and electrical hookups, launching ramp, lighted dock area as well as a fuel and transient pier. Row-boats and canoes may be rented. The park's combination of swamp and upland offers a great variety of plant and animal life, including white dogwood and pink laurel in the spring, river otters and bald eagles, and over 50 species of fish. |
| Pocomoke State Forest |
| With 14,745 wooded acres in the southwestern section
of Worcester County, between Snow Hill and Pocomoke City,
the state forest is famous for its stand of loblolly pine
and for its cypress swamps which border the Pocomoke
River. Pocomoke means black water, and there is good
fishing in these waters. Outdoor recreational opportunities include hiking, off-road-vehicle trails, hunting, bird-watching, fishing and canoeing. The forest also has disabled hunter access areas. The forest is managed to provide research on forest growth as well as to offer varied recreational opportunities with its natural resources. Pocomoke State Forest is located along the Pocomoke River, 15 miles south of Salisbury, and is reached via MD RT. 12. |
